Referrals Aren’t About Being Liked.
Referrals Aren’t About Being Liked. They’re About Being Remembered.
Most agents think referrals happen because people like them.
That’s not it.
Here’s the real trick
Referrals happen because of two things. Visibility and trust. That’s it. That’s the whole formula.
People aren’t sitting around thinking about you just because you’re a nice person. They refer you when your name shows up in their brain at the exact right moment. Their coworker mentions moving. Their cousin says they’re thinking about selling. And in that split second, somebody has to come to mind.
If it’s not you, it’s because you weren’t visible enough to be remembered.
Why “nice” isn’t enough
You can be the most likable agent in town. You can send birthday cards and remember everyone’s dog’s name. None of that matters if you’re invisible the other 364 days of the year.
Trust gets you considered. Visibility gets you remembered. You need both, and most agents are only working on one of them.
The fix
Stay in front of people. Consistently. Not with a hard sell, just with presence. A story. A face they recognize. A voice they hear often enough that when the moment comes up, you’re the one who’s already in their head.
That’s the opportunity. Not asking for it. Being present enough to already own it before anyone else has a chance.
Visibility + trust. That’s how referrals actually happen.
